Religions
Declared religious affiliation
Christianity, historically overwhelmingly dominant, now accounts for only slightly more than half of the population, in steady decline for several decades in favour of no religion, now the second most reported category. Catholicism remains particularly present in Quebec, historically shaped by the Catholic Church until the Quiet Revolution of the 1960s, and in communities of Irish, Italian, Polish or Filipino origin; the rise of non-Christian religions (Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism) directly reflects the major waves of recent immigration.
