French is the only official language of the Republic. Several regional languages, long spoken in the country, enjoy recognition as heritage without co-official status.

Occitan, Breton, Alsatian, Corsican, Basque, Catalan, West Flemish, langues d'oïl…
Recognised as part of France's heritage since 2008 (Article 75-1 of the Constitution). France has signed but not ratified the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.
