Population
A population concentrated around large urban areas
Driven by one of the highest population growth rates in the world, Nigeria has passed 230 million inhabitants and, according to United Nations projections, should become the third most populous country on the planet by mid-century, behind India and China. Its extremely young population is concentrated in a few megacities — first among them Lagos, one of the most dynamic and populous urban areas in Africa — and in the densely populated farming belt of the south-east and Yorubaland, while the semi-arid north, although also very populous (Kano), is generally less dense.
